I've grown it since they were first introduced and I don't get all the exotic colors. I pick mine when the first sign of a red splash occurs. It is perfect then.

If I waited until it looks like the promo photo, it would be total mush.

Wispy for sure, but as the plant matures, the wispiness isn't as pronounced. People loved looking at it in my garden when they are almost full size but still really dark. Most thought it was baby eggplants.
