I think it's too late (too close to winter) to root lantana. It takes longer than you think.

But they root easily.

I am no expert on rooting plants, but I have rooted New Gold Lantana and other varieties a few times. Here in Zone 8 (central Mississippi) they label lantana as annuals, but it has been my experience that they survive our winters and behave as perennials.

Some varieties (including New Gold) die back to the ground every winter and grow new branches from the roots every spring.

Some varieties (including Sun Rise and Sun Set) simply lose their leaves in the winter and grow new leaves and flowers back from last year's branches..

My problem with rooting lantana cuttings has been that I tend to leave the newly rooted plants in pots outdoors in the winter and their roots seem to freeze.
