Big Beef is my favorite multipurpose hybrid. I made the switch from Better Boy about 5 or so years back, when two Big Beef plants outproduced five Better Boys. If I could grow only one tomato, Big Beef would be it.

I'm trying something a little different with them this year...25 of them in about 27 foot row, suckered down to two growing tips and weaved...with 25 sweet peppers about a foot to the southeast spaced in the gaps. It was going to be single stem but they were under agribon to start. Between peeks, they pushed the top and each formed a large sucker with a second truss, right after the first truss. So, now it is two tips. So far so good; I just finished the 4th weave on the big beefs, and started the pepper weave.

It's the kind of experiment I wouldn't bother trying with almost any other tomato. I need to make both salsa and chili sauce again this year and am hoping this does the trick. Here's to Big Beef!
