Hosting a large swap gives me some insights into popular "wanted" tomatoes, and popular "have" tomatoes, judging by requests and donations of seeds.
In a category not listed in the original thread, striped tomatoes, I've seen the most variance over the years. There once where dozens and dozens of relatively popular striped varieties. Today, it's basically down to four extremely popular ones; Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Girl Girl's Weird Thing, Maglia Rosa, and Lithium Sunset.
