I don't really like them either (can't say I hate them), but there is a recipe you need to try if you haven't. Fairly thinly cut slices (rounds), add salt, decent amount of ground pepper, a tiny bit of vinegar, one garlic clove very thinly sliced, a little bit of oil. This is the standard cucumber salad that I know of, it doesn't seem very known though.
