Madera has a shelf life of a couple weeks or more (depending on storage conditions).

On the vine it holds for quite a while. The last stages of ripening are significantly stretched out. But with excess water, it does split at the last stages. However waiting until full ripeness to pick is definitely suggested. Otherwise there is a tendency to use them before peak flavor.
