I was excited to read this. I've grown cowpeas (Unguiculata subspecies), and yardlong beans (Sesquipedalis subspecies). Based on how they look and grow I had thought until today that they are separate species.

They are a marginal crop for my climate... I've been lucky to harvest about as much seed as went into the ground. But I'll keep trying: Perhaps I'll interplant the two subspecies this summer.

I took asparagus beans to the farmer's market a couple of years ago. A group of Chinese ladies practically had a fist-fight over them every week, trying to decide who got to take them home...
