I'd be curious to hear more comments on the various rootstocks. I had planned to use Maxifort, but now I've read various comments that it's too "strong" and produces too much vegetation. Most of what I've read applies to commercial growing where it's desirable to produce a single leader. In the garden--or at least in my garden--where things are much more haphazard, what's my best bet: Maxifort or one o the less aggressive rootstocks? Finally, I see a lot of benefit in Red's approach of simply using a good, strong, disease resistent variety (e.g. Big Beef) and saving a lot of money.

Thoughts or comments?
