Favism is associated with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, a genetic condition, but not everyone with G6PD exhibits a reaction to the alkaloids in Fava Beans. A potentially fatal reaction is pretty rare from what I understand.
I'm half Italian, I've consumed much Fava beans in my life and I'm still here. I guess I'm safe.
