My beans have arrived and they are not at all what I am looking for.
Elephantes beans the very largest size of white bean , which come only from Kastoria and have to be 1800 grams per 1000 beans
Gigantes the giant size have to be 1200-1800 grams per 1000 and also only come from Kastoria
These are from Kavala and are classified in Greece as large white beans .
They are in great condition, contain various sizes but not are big enough or from the right region to be considered true Gigandes beans by Greek regulations.
I have no doubt they will be great for cooking but are not what I am looking for.
I will try to germinate a couple of the largest ones for curiosity
They are a runner bean and may make nice plants if they germinate but they are not authentic Gigandes or Elephantes which have to fall into the above catagories for weight and size and they must come from the region of Kastoria to bear the name.
They are way off the size I am looking for..the search goes on.....
