Greenhouse advice
I’m trying to help a family friend this year by providing her with tomato plants for her to sell out of her nursery this year. We plan on transplanting the seedlings to 3 inch pots this weekend but she recently heard that the kerosene heat she uses in her greenhouse could harm vegetable plants. I have never heard this and need to know if this could be a potential problem for tomatoes.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. RIK |
I have friends that do have greenhouses and they have wood stoves. There complaint is every 3 to 4 hrs they have to get up and stoke it back up.

Many people have used kerosene heaters in GH with no problems.
I think CO2 enrichment can be beneficial in the greenhouse. I think non-venting type heaters still need ventilation. I think heater with low-oxygen cut-off feature is good to have dcarch |
Cool, so I'm guessing that if she has ferns, flowers, and vines that have had no problem with her current system then the maters should do just fine.
Thanks for the advice! RIK |
Just to add to the subject. I have used kerosene heaters in my greenhouse for years and they work great. I have had no problems with my plants. They seem to thrive.
