Shoot! The rabbit...

...knows.

The rabbit knows I can't even lift a finger in an attempt to scare it off. Yesterday it hopped into the yard, and from about 100 feet away, it hopped straight toward and then past me, coming within about 3 inches of my legs. The rabbit knows. Shoot!

Sounds like a fenced garden area is in order, lol. Dang things are brave.

ROFLOL, not really, I can't get on the floor or I won't be getting back up, lol. I loved this cartoon though.

I love old cartoons--all the old Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. While those cartoons are older than me and my son added together, we love to watch them together.

With any justice, that cartoon would have given Wagner a heart attack.

Things were a lot better back then!

I remember when they started editing out the part where the Coyote landed at the bottom of the cliff in the Roadrunner. It was the beginning of the end...

Maybe you could lure a nice family of foxes to live nearby... When I first bought my house, there were rabbits everywhere. About two years ago, grey foxes moved into the neighborhood. I haven't seen a rabbit since. Squirrel numbers are down, too. The only downside is that the foxes steal eggs from my neighbors' chicken coop, and leave the shells all over my backyard. If you do find some foxes, find ones that pick up after themselves! :)

Shake a white hankie at him, he will run away.

That has a painful medical sound about it - are you recovering from back surgery or something else of the braced - can't - move sort?

Hope you have a speedy and successful recovery!

The solution is simple. There are four rules.

First, really shoot the rabbit.

Second, then cook the rabbit.

Third, now eat the rabbit.

Fourth, if another rabbit shows up, go back to step one and repeat.

Any country boy knows this. :))

I live in some fairly urban suburbs (i.e., they're old, established suburbs and have been developed long enough that there are no deer), and this spring, a red fox--a really large one--showed up in the neighborhood. I've seen it in my yard twice. The second time, it was literally sitting in the middle of one of my raised beds in broad daylight grooming itself like it was king of the world.

There's been a huge decrease in local rodents. Way fewer rabbits, squirrels, only one chipmunk (which, actually, I haven't seen for over a month), and no groundhog. So far, no evidence of voles, either.

Coincidence?

I've also noticed the crows mobbing some kind of large, brown bird I haven't been able to get a good look at. I'm thinking an owl.

I've seen and heard smaller gray foxes in the neighborhood at night, but this red fox is huge and magnificent and pretty darn cheeky. I hope it has a family nearby and doesn't get hit by a car or picked up by animal control.

It's my heart that can't be moved, to scare it off.

It needs to eat and try to feel safe, like us. There are all kinds of coyotes, foxes, hawks, etc... around here. Because I've been in the garden many hours a day for about a month, reconstructing almost everything in the garden, the rabbit (and the babies) likely feel completely safe when I'm around.

I'm the sort when the robins fly in, every day, I stop what I'm doing, grab a shovel, and dig them up some worms. I'm running low on worms this year. (sigh)
