Haha. I was just recently trying to open a sewn bag and said to myself, "i used to know the trick".
Thanks for the reminder.

I used to have to open a lot of horse feeds bags back when I had horses. Most of them opened like in the video, but I never really knew why -- I would just yank on the string, and the ones that didn't open right away got cut with a knife!

I never knew why sometimes I'd pull the right string on a bag of potatoes and other times I'd have to keep cutting it until I found the right thread.

Thanks for sharing Durgan :)

Very nice! I would try and give it a tug then give a slice with my pocket knife if it didn't work.

I think that's a chain stitch.

Something us farm kids learn as soon as we get out of moms pouch.
It is also the way I tie a boat or canoe in a river for fast get away.

Further information. Most people usually have some type of knife close by.
If one puts the straight line of the stitch facing them, take your sharp knife and cut the end strings on the right end close up to the edge of the bag. Tug one of the string ends and the stitch should unravel. Cutting close, prevents the strings from going back into the knot loop.
