Testing the picture upload - took this with my new Canon with the 12X Zoom...sat about 10 feet from the feeder and the birds visit! Just click the thumbnail...

Yellow-rumped warbler, I think. Great pic!

Yes, a Yellow Rump (or Myrtle) warbler. In the winter and spring, those as well as Pine Warblers stick around and eat our suet. I've also gotten fair to good pics of Hairy and Downy woodpeckers, white breasted Nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, house finches, gold finch, junco, towhee, hermit thrush, cardinal on or around our feeders. I am amazed at how bold the birds become even when I sit pretty close - I just have to be quiet and still for a bit of time. Nice way to spend an hour or so!

Thanks for the reminder - I left out one of the most important birds of all - Bluebirds! Yes, we have active nesting boxes - and we draw them to our feeders with the particular mix we use (lots of sunflower seed hearts). In fact, I was just on a work call on my deck and mom and dad bluebird were on the feeders this morning.

In my area water seems to be the biggest attraction for the blues. I have also put out food that is attractive to the bluebirds. Last month during most of the month there were at least thirty bluebirds in the yard; twenty at a time around the birdbath with another bunch waiting their turn. With the last two blizzards in the past two weeks I have not seen the blues around as much. The flock of robins that showed up in January are gone as well. Should have known from that the weather was going to turn bad.

They were really something...Ihope they show up again after the blizzard we are having quits. I do not have enough houses for all of them. If they show up again I will get a shot and post it now that I know how.
