Potato leaf
 

I got some pepper seeds from a Forum Member and germinated around 5 seeds. One plant ended up with what I think I have heard called potato leaves. They have several points instead of rounded like most leaves I've seen? The plant is outgrowing the other 5 plants. So far the plant is around 10 inches and had three sets of leaves all with the points. Will the plant produce fine? Will it out grow the weird shaped leaves? And the last question can I sell it for a million dollars to anyone?:no: I had a Ping Pong cherry tomato once that I grew from seed and it had potato leaves and it never ended up producing well?

some of the very best tomatoes are potato leaf varieties. There can be different sizes and shapes of pepper leaves which would be normal as well. can you put up a picture? that would help us see what you mean.

I am not a photo person but I can ask my 11 year old to take a picture and post.

I have grown hundreds of hot peppers and the leaves are rounded except this one plant. I guess I will end up letting this plant grow and see the results. I did just bump it up to a 7 gallon pot. I have around 35 plants going what is 1 more?

It might help if you told us what variety the pepper is - or is supposed to be.

Here is the photo my son took. I germinated 6 seeds and it is the only one with non rounded leaves. It is the only pepper leaf I have ever seen like this. I have grown hundreds of peppers and all the leaves are rounded?

I bet it isn't a pepper I looks like a tomatillo leaf.

Agreed Worth, that isn't a pepper. Tomatillo or maybe a cape gooseberry or ground cherry.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too, tomatillo.

The potato leaf imposter is starting to flower. We'll know soon what the heck it is.

I was going to say a weed. I think tomatillas have smooth stems, if I recall correctly, yours has bristles on it. Rub a leaf and smell it. Usually a weed leaf has its own particular odor and does not smell appealing, either. Nor does it smell like a vegetable... I have weed seeds quite frequently germinate and I am constantly plucking off a leaf to smell it before I pull the whole thing out, just to make sure.

It is indeed a weed. I am totally embarrassed I didn't realize it. Not only is it a weed but I have seen it growing before in my yard and recognize it. I germinate my seeds between papertowels and in this case I germinated around 6 seeds which I put in soil once they crack open. That darn weed grew right in the middle of the pot where I put the germinated seed.

Well, at least you didn't let it grow for a whole season to find out. I had someone offer me tarragon a few years ago at on of my farmers markets... so I said oh, yes... I have been looking for some. I got it and put it on a pot to find it was a weed.. goldenrod to be exact :dizzy:.
