Bottoms Up?
 

Too hot to move, so today will be question day. ;)

My plants are tied to grow straight up, but I have several different types of tomatoes that are growing sideways and like with their bottoms up in the air instead of hanging down.

I know some folks may think I am a bit off my rocker, but do my tomatoes have to copy after me too? :lol:

You can see the one big one in the pic and a different variety growing in the top left corner and see that it is growing sideways too.

Besides the ones in the pic, Amazon Chocolate, Barao Road and even Belize Pink Heart are growing sideways and then bottom's up.

Can anybody tell me what I might be doing wrong and will they ripen growing this way? :?

You're not doing anything wrong. They will ripen just fine. A lot of mine grow like that. You have some nice looking tomatoes.

I have had such fruits in my plants as well, and despite their position, they ripened fine :lol: So, AFAIK nothing the grower has gone wrong - unless the truss is tied in such a way that forced the fruits into that 'breech position'.
Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully soon join in the discussion, and tell if there is anything important to know about the subject.

The Black Krim I grew that was over 1 lb. grew like that too.

Whew! Good to know. Thank you for the kind words. :) This is my first year growing mainly all heirlooms and the credit goes to TV folks. They been holding my hand since these guys were tots and just about destroyed from storms.

It sure does look funny. I watched them grow and slowly turn and go bottom up. It's like they was shy or something and didn't want me to look at them. :lol: I did go back out and double check how I had my plants tied just in case I did do something wrong. I'm ok on that part. :D

I wonder if there is any other veggie that can do so many different things and go through so many changes and adaptations as a tomato. These guys sure do keep a body hopping. Everyday it is a challenge as to what you will find.

Just glad to find out my tomatoes are going to be ok. :yes:

Good to know that. Thanks. :D Since folks on here said BK was a really good tomato they liked I have about 8 plants of them. At least I won't panic now if they tip their skirts.

I wonder if with being upside down if it helps at all to prevent BER? So far no signs of it and hope it keeps that way. With the triple digits is getting harder to figure just how much water to give these guys as they are all in containers. Don't want the bottoms to be too wet and rot and yet don't want them to dry out so much they wilt and stress.
