My Setup

Plants went in on April 14. 20 tomatoes, 5 peppers, various herbs etc.

All is in now, cages set and irrigation all set up. Raised beds are new for me this year as is the trellis system. I am hoping to have some fun with the new challenge as I have always grown in cages.

My only real challenges at the moment are the daggone birds (notice the mylar) and slugs.

Hope you enjoy. My little tomato helper cant wait for some ripe cherry tomatoes, he's even getting good at waiting till they are ripe now!

Nice, tidy set up. I like that. Wishing you lots of success this season and some rewards for your little helper, too.

About 2' in diameter, 5' tall for the in ground tomatoes and 7' for the container plants. I'm using 15 gallon containers and they're working well so far.

Updated. Jaune Flamme Close Up. Appears to be setting a lot right now. Hope to have fruit in the next month at least on the cherry varieties.

Beautiful raised beds! I think you will do great with them.

What a beautiful setup. Thanks for sharing! And I second what has already been said about the adorableness of your helper. :)

I believe I read somewhere that birds will go after ripe tomatoes as an emergency water source during hot, dry times...so, I plan to move a bird bath into the tomato-growing area in my backyard to hopefully prevent this from happening. I haven't tried Mylar yet, but I figure this can't hurt!

How do your round cages perform? Have you used them in the past? I am considering something similar.

Thanks for any input...

So far I really like em. I used stakes in the past and these allow for way more plant and yield. I wish I had more space I could make em even larger and really have some mega yields. As my garden is a bit smaller I have to keep up with the long shoots/new growths that want to come out the sides and either finagle them back into the cage if room or prune some but so far so good.
