strange damage on pepper plants
1 Attachment(s)
alright, my peppers are bells and im trying to figure out what could cause this strange damage.
its along the edges of the plants leaves and looks almost like bruising ( if you take a leaf off of a tree and hit it 1 time, it looks like that ) i havent ben able to find any evidence of insect activity on the leaves so im at a loss. the same thing is happening to tomatoes and cucumber plants. added a picture |
Not sure about the bruising, but appears you are watering overhead?
Are the bruising under leaf also, are they transparent? |
yes they kind of look transparent, unforchinetly i dont have a choice, i have to water overhead.

it's hard to tell from your photo but I'd look closer for signs of cucumber mosaic virus or flea beetles. Have you had a soil test recently?

swamper, TMV is transmitted via aphids according to your link
Not sure why you mentioned flea beetles? Wouldn't thrips in TSWV transmission be a posibility for the pest than a flea beetle based on the appearance. Flea beetle (adult)damge is more of a mini shot gun damage. Or could it be from FB larva? BTW, thanks for that link. Brian, have you seen any aphids or other insects? |
i have seen aphids when they were realy young but not since then. they have more than doubled in size at this point and i havent realy seen any more damage, the damage you saw in the picture did some realy strange things though
for about a week it came and went every night, it would show up at night then go away during the day. no idea what could have ben going on, but as long as things are looking good and they dont die on me im happy, but now my lettuce that im growing inside under lights is starting to have these gray papper thin spots showing up and i just had to face palm. if its not 1 plant its always another. gata love organic gardening. |
Lots of questions -- is there mulch under the plants? What kind of overhead watering do you use, is it a sprinkler or a handheld hose nozzle or what?
The newer young leaves look healthy. Is the damage always on the lower leaves of the tomatoes and peppers or do any of the plants also have damage on newer leaves at the top of the plant? And are the cukes climbing up a trellis or vining along the ground? |
no - i dont have mulch under the plants, i will when i have the money.
i water them with a watering can or hose with a light shower head. it was on all of the leaves. the cukes are crawling on the ground the problem seems to have fixed itself so for right now it seems alright. no idea if it will come back or not. |
Could be a physiological deal since they are still young - getting acclimated..
Go buy a good watering can w/ non dripping rosette, and and stop watering the leaves. T |
Of course I don't know if you just watered but the picture/area just looks too moist to me.
