Tomato Data Base With Pictures
Feldon,
You may have already found this. It's a great Website for heritage plant growers. http://sev.lternet.edu/~jnekola/Heirloom/tomatoesA.htm I like it because it's simple, to the point and has color photos of the tomatoes and leaf shapes. It also has the SSE lister codes if you wish to obtain seeds for a variety. PV |
oh my PV !
Someone else it waxing !!! Great site ! ~ Tom |

Tom ... check out "Mary Reynolds" yellow tomato ... WOW  |
Yikes, this means that Jeff has put his website back up> Great. D in the PNW has been trying to reconstruct it from when Jeff was at U of WI.
He left there, there was a bit of a to do, and went elsewhere and was supposed to be linking up with SSE re the website. He has done programs on ecology for SSE in the past as regards their new properties as they acquire them. But I couldn't happier than to see it again. Note, Jeff does NOT sell seeds. He used to list a lot of varieties in the SSE Yearbook but stopped doing that several years ago. He was very active in an annual plant sale they had but that's back in WI and he's not there any more. Good fetch PV. And you can't use the SSE codes to request seeds b'c you can only request seeds from the current Yearbook and many of the varieties he lists are no longer being listed. Some of us have some of them in our seed collections, but that's about it. The SSE codes do indicate his original source of seeds for what's pictured. What is an SSE code? Well, I'm NY MA C NY, state MA, first two letters of last name C, first letter of first name Which makes Craig NC LE C and so on and so on. |

I did notice many of the codes are from circa '99, etc. ... but it's still a great resource until someone does a more extensive, up to date site. I like this format because of the photos on the left accompanied by a short text on the right without having to click back and forth and it all fits on the viewing screen without having to scroll left and right. Great job, Jeff! PV |
PV if you like that kind of format than I assume you also know about the French site Ventmarin, aka Passion Tomatoes which has many more entries?

Thanks PV ~
Now if I can find an orange tom that blows the "reds flavor" out of the water ; would be a different story .... Webpages like these help ~ ~ Tom |
Now we just have to combine all of these sites into 1. :)
Carolyn, I think I read a while back that at the time of the publication of your book, it was "not yet time" to discuss the Estler's strain of Mortgage Lifter vs. other strains. With the Quisenberry topics both here and on GW saying he brought forth one of the strains of Mortgage Lifter, is it time yet? :) Or did I already miss it. |
Took me a while to find my way to the actual "database" if you will.
http://ventmarin.free.fr/passion_tomates/tomates_a/tomates_a.htm http://ventmarin.free.fr/passion_tomates/tomates_b/tomates_b.htm etc. Go here: http://ventmarin.free.fr/passion_tomates/ and scroll down to tomates_a and see all those subdirectories. There's a lot of varieties listed with information, but not a lot of pictures. |

I read somewhere a little while back (can't remember where) there was alot of inacurate information on the French site Ventmarin, aka Passion Tomates.
Is that correct? |
