Raymondo’s patch downunder 2018-2019
 

It’s been an age since posting here. I’ve just started sowing toms for the upcoming season. We run a market garden so a good number of them are for that enterprise. Others are just for us or are for trial and/or seed increase. The ones marked * are new this season.

Looking good Ray

Looks like a great variety there Ray. I noticed Pearly Pink Cherry, Black Cherry and Matina in my seed tin, but went without them again this season. For something different I grew some Lime Green Salad as they're not that bad for a salad tomato.

Looking at having some fun with Donskoi this season, if I can get it that far.

Will follow your progress Ray and see how you go.

Yes mcsee, Lime Green Salad is a good little salad tomato. You’ve reminded me that my seed is getting old. It will go on next year’s list to freshen the seed.

Ray, when Sherry and Sue (in Alaska) sent me your cross of Galinas and Black Krim to grow out, the three of us
conspired together to make sure you were honored and recognized for your work. I wanted to
recognize and honor both you and the wishes of the ladies in Alaska.

I ended up with two releases. Kodiak Brown for the darker side that seemed to have the Black Krim traits dominant,
and, Kenai Mondo Green to include at least a part of your name. Both of these are excellent in the taste department.
Kodiak Brown is a tomato machine and Kenai Mondo Green sweetens up nicely just before it begins to go amber in color.

Very nice looking tomatoes Ted and if they taste as good as they look.....

Kodiak Brown is great. It has a full complex flavor that doesn't leave you wanting for more. One plant in my garden will, on average, give me 2 to 3 dozen fruits. Some plants will do better than that. Taste is "smooth as a gravy sandwich" - pun intended.

Kenai Mondo Green has that GWR citrusy quality and the overall taste gets sweeter and sweeter as more amber coloring is taken on.

Fruit trusses on both will have from 3 to 6 tomatoes that seem to ripen together (each truss) and the plants keep growing and setting fruit. Both are definitely indeterminate.

Ted, I had forgotten all about that cross. I did a number of them, all with Galina’s as one parent. All, it seems, produced good results. Thank you for the honourable mention in the name Kenai Mondo Green. I appreciate the thought.
I’m not sure why but I cannot see the pictures, just their names. Never mind. I’m sure they look as good as they sound.

Ray, I find that if I am using my phone I cannot see the pictures, but if I am on computer I can see the pictures. They are both very nice looking tomatoes and a credit to the breeder and selectors.

Ah, I use an iPad so perhaps it’s all mobile devices, not just phones, although I can see other pics.

Just had a quick flick through the show us your pepper thread and photos there come up. Maybe there are two ways to attach photos, one shows on all devices, the other only on computer. Don't know.

Hello Australians. A friend asked me today if I would ask you all whether the health of your bees is suffering where you live. When I searched online I didn't find any bad news regarding your bees but first hand news is best. How are they doing?


I had one small bumble bee that seemed to really like tomato flowers this year. It stopped me from saving seeds from any fruit that hadn't had the blossoms bagged first after watching it go from one tomato plant to another.

We're in Gippsland in Victoria and although not in great numbers at the moment, I'd expect we'd have lots around in the coming months. I'll keep you informed GC.
