Finally! Some Beryl Beauty's ready to pick! Looks like I'm going to get a bunch ripening all at once.

Re: Rosella Purple flavor--there's something about it, a quality of similarity to a medium rare to rare sirloin, a thinner feel on the tongue than the juices of a steak, but some similar elements in the sweet and acid and bouquet.....I've no problem with the skin, but I can't say I like the texture of the flesh; it wasn't mealy or anything, but it was vaguely unpleasant in sensation....

With my taste testers, Rosella Purple is liked but coming in at number three behind Arbuznyi and Black Sea Man. The Cherokee Purple's are just getting ready to eat, so they aren't included in the results.

For the Beryl Beauty, the varieties the tasters will compare with Lime Green Salad, Grub's Mystery Green and Aunt Ruby's German Green. Grub's has been the hit of the greens so far this season, in part because of it's attractive appearance as a slice on the plate.

Just to share a thought here fior any newcomer.

Don't let the word dwarf decieve you, these are not little plants. Mine are bigger than I expected and next year I will give them more room.

They are in 5 gallon double buckets and are doing OK in them but am wondering if bigger would be better.

I didn't prune anything off at all, maybe I should have, the foliage is very dense , maybe I could have thinned it a bit.

Speed of growth amazed me.

Size of my green fruit is huge, I was not expecting that, I am just starting to see a wee bit of colour now if I look close.

A real learning experience for me. Quite fascinating.

Given it's size, it was obviously meant to be shared, so I sent it with my mom to my aunt and uncle's and the family had Saturday night sandwiches.

When you're the tomato provider for the family, you have to make sacrifices...:cry:

Is it just me or is a lot of Beryl Beauty's flavor in the seed gel? That's my impression from the first couple of ripe ones.

I got the first ripe Summertime Green fruit, from the plant that Jannine so graciously shared with me back in July.

It was a 22.8 oz monster, a result of a fused blossom, and an ugly one :)

My husband and I sampled it today, in arugula salad. It was not the best tomato I had, but it was still quite nice. The color is the same as Giant Green, very pale green, inside and our, with dark emerald gel and very few seeds. I would rate the taste 7/10.

The other fruits look closer to 10-12 oz, not ripe yet. I have 12 fruits on one plant and no new blooms. It's like the plant is putting all its energy into growing/maturing the existing fruits, unlike the other 3 dwarfs (Mr. Snow, Wild Fred, and Beryl Beauty) that continue to bloom and set fruit.

This is the smallest out of the 4 dwarfs, only 3' tall.

I'd say it is a very good alternative for the folks who like Green Giant but want compact plants and earlier maturity. Of course you will not get a productivity of a Green Giant, but DTM is pretty good for PNW!

After eating the first fruit, I went out and picked the second - I think it is almost ready. It is hard to tell by the fruit color when it is completely ripe, so a 'squeeze' test is a must!

What dwarf would this be-RL, cut green and allowed to ripen early to make room in Green house.

If it's one of the newly released green-when-ripes it would have to be Summertime Green because all the other greens were PL varieties.

So what are the others on the plate? :D

Oops, it just occured to me that they're probably all from the same variety and 2 are unripe and the others on the plate are the ripe colour, so in that case it's not possible to say which of the released ones they might be I don't think, sorry.

Hi Folks-

I just finished reading through this deep thread and I'm bouncing in my seat thinking about all the tasty dwarf bushes I'll be growing this winter indoors under grow lights. I need to get started germinating seeds ASAP, I think, in order to actually have a shot at tasting a tomato this Winter. I went to the URL above for Heritage seed source, but there were no items found under "The New Dwarfs" category. How can I go about procuring some of these seeds post haste? Specifically, I'm thinking to grow the following:
Summertime Green
Summertime Gold
Rosella Purple
Dwarf Beryl Beauty
Dwarf Mr. Snow
And maybe one other.

I'm going to try Raybo's InnTainer system -- so three Tainers, each with two plants.
