Fall dwarf grow-out in the greenhouse
I am participating in the dwarf grow-out as well as growing a bunch of Andrey's dwarves. I am limiting myself to 20 varieties-any more and its really pushing it in my hobby greenhouse.
I am just starting seed today. All varieties will go in 5 gallon growbags with a cage or stick to support them. Here are my varieties: From the Grow-out: Summertime Gold 3 (pl2) Sweet Sue Summertime Gold 2 (pl1) Barossa Fest 2 (pl1) Dwarf Beryl Beauty Summertime Green (rl2) Barossa Fest 2 (rl 2) Dwarf Kelly Green From Andrey: Severnaya Malyutka Nevskiy Balkonzauber Amurskiy Shtamb Taimyr Rosalinda Zimnyaya Vishnya Rozovyi Leader Otradnyi Alpha Oldies but Goodies: Adam 1 Mini Red Cherry Mano (rugose) Two new ones for me: Besser Dwarf (from Fusion) Lazy Man (from Jeanne) |

Don't short change yourself. Only dwarves? dcarch:oops: ;) |
D-Dwarf tomatoes are my favorites-I dont grow anything but dwarves in the greenhouse-in the fall and in January.. I have about 75 different dwarves, maybe 100-its my passion.

dwarves
Andrey's "Balkonzauber" did very good here, 1/2 the season outside and the last 1/2 in a greenhouse. Ping pong sized fruit and lots of it. I also had "Pinnochio" and "Arkticheskaya Vishnya" (quite the tomato name...I am glad I never had to speak the name to someone!). I virtually could not tell the Pinnochio and the AV apart as they had the same growing habit and height, the fruits looked identical and DTM was the same. I will be waiting to hear about the other dwarves from Andrey. Although we have totally different growing seasons, maybe your winter season will sorta be like a really good summer here!

Yes, Sue, Balkonzauber and Pinnochio look very identical
How about Arkticheskaya Vishnya (Arctic Cherry) for you? Mine bears red cherry fruits instead of pink cherries as original description is telling... |
What I am really proud of is that I typed the names of Andrey's varieties without mis-spelling. :D
Sue, I think you are right. My greenhouse fall growing season may be like your summer. Stay tuned to this thread for info on how the season goes. |
Andrey,
The Pinnochio and the AV (my abbreviation for that dwarf!) are the 2 that look identical, not the Balkonzauber. The Balkonzauber has orange/red fruits, saladette size, maybe a little bigger than the ping pong like I said earlier and the other two are small cherry sized and lighter orange in color. The Balkonzauber produced early and the other two plugged along with only a few ripe ones here and there. I just yesterday pulled all the tomato plants and have them all ripening in cardboard boxes scattered around the house. Our weather could not produce anymore ripe ones for me. Sue |
Yes, I meant AV and P :)
Michael, I'm very glad you are the one like that :D A good cause to learn Russian for you  Let's start with the pronunciation of the word "Dostoprimechatelnost" (Sightseeing) |
Andrey- Ok, I just pronounced it perfectly.
Whats next? |
I should better safe your voice and tongue :D
How about Utyonok? Don't you want to try it this fall as you already got seeds from me?! ;) I belive you won't be dissapointed... |
Andrey-I didnt put Utyonok on the grow list for 2 reasons-The first is that I knew you didnt need seed back for it, and the second is that I am growing several non-red, non-pink varieties already in the fall greenhouse.
Not that I didnt want to try it, and I thank you for the seed. I plan on growing it in the greenhouse in January (my second greenhouse season). |
No problem - you are the Boss in your garden :D
|
Andrey-I am not the boss in my garden-my wife is-I do what she tells me to do with regard to everything-After 30 years of marriage, I found out that is the best way!

Michael, Have you tried "Resista" dwarf? I will have fresh seeds for that one soon. I have grown it two seasons now and like the taste. It is approx. 18" tall and has round, red fruits. Maybe something new for your greenhouse in Jan.? Sue |
Sue-Never heard of that variety-I would like seed. I will pm you.
