Neves Azorean Red x Marianna's Peace

I just made this cross, mostly for fun and to, hopefully, get a tasty F1 and maybe eventually a new stable variety ;)
Have anyone tried that cross before? How was the result? Taste, production ect.?

If anyone wants F2 seeds to do their own grow-out and selection, maybe I will have seeds to share next fall.

/Søren

Cross

Marianna's peace grows well her--I would be happy to do a grow out of the F1 and report back

Vortreker: I actually meant F2 seeds, sorry about that typo. But if you want F1 seeds, I can send you some if the cross takes ;)

That will make an excellent F1 tomato.

NAR inputs strong, erect, shorter than normal indeterminate internodes and superb vine health as well as a deep, unique flavor. The Brandywine genes in Marianna's Peace speak for themselves! I'd love some F1 or F2 seeds from that cross.

And we know there are Brandywine genes in MP b'c?

How do we know that? I thought it was an heirloom variety that came straight from now I forget where,, and while it's PL and a large pink how does one equate that with Brandywine genes when there are so many large pink fruited PL varieties with lots of different variety names represented?

Just curious.;)

Sorry, I must have been thinking of Earl's Faux or something else :dizzy:

Nothing to be sorry about Travis. I just thought that maybe you knew something about MP that the rest of us didn't know.;)

Could you please put me on the list for f2 seeds.

great cross

I would love to grow this as well.

I have grown the cross between Brandywine and Neves Azorean Red for several Seasons, and I love it. In my Top 5. If seeds of this cross are available, I would surely like to participate in a comparison grow vs. the Brandywine version (N.A.R.X.), or as it is also called "Brannar".

A lot of people seems to be interested in this cross - I guess that is a good thing

However, I don't know if any of the crosses I made have been succesful, so I can't promise that I will even have any seeds to share.
The initial idea was to grow out a F1 plan or two myself, and then, in fall 2011, share the F2 seeds to whoever wanted to do their own grow out and selections (and hopefully create a new variety).

F1 seeds ;)
And they are on the way!

Here is a couple of pics, the first one is showing the crossed fruit - the other two are F1 plants from my test sowing of the cross (got 100% RL).
It is a shame that I have to throw them out, I wish I could send them to New Zealand as well

Seeds have made it thanks Soren,i plan to grow about 5-6 plants inside my tunnelhouse in large pots till November then plant out along side Jade Beauty and Wherokowhai from the dwarf project, the Wherokowhai strike wasn't to flash (2 Plants)so ive got extra room now under my netted area for the this F1 cross

Gobig_or_Gohome_toms October 1, 2010 09:24 AM

If they are F1 seeds which it appears they are from following the posts in this thread all 5-6 plants should be the same and you will not start seeing any segregation until you grow the saved seeds from the F1 plants.
