Call out to any Kentucky market growers.

Hi,

This coming season will be our first selling for market.

Our primary seller will be tomatoes followed by bell, sweet and hot peppers, carrots, bush beans, cucumbers, crooked neck squash, fennel, leeks, okra and onions.

We are also planning to also sell tomato and pepper starts and some flower starts as well.

What have your prices been set at for your area?

What has your 2016 season seen?

We are in western Kentucky in the town of Princeton which is located 50 miles east of Paducah.

Any help is deeply appreciated!! :D

I'm about 50 miles west of Paducah. Here is the fb page of my market:

Hopefully, you have a fb account so you can see their page. You can see a lot of prices in the pics posted. Overall, prices tend to be very low, on a national perspective. I get $2 a pound for most of the tomatoes I sell, regardless of them being heirlooms. If I don't match the going market rate for tomatoes, then I sell very few.

I sell plants in the spring in 4" pots for $2 or 3 for $5. For 1-gallon pots, I get $5. Almost no one buys six-packs of garden plants.

I live in Hopkinsville which as you know is about 30 miles from you; at the farmers market in the spring tomatoes bring $2.99 lb. The most popular variety is Cherokee Purple; these are grown in green houses are large fruits; in summer the going price is $2 lb. although I don't sell produce, I think selling tomato seedlings would be more profitable than the fruits but am not sure if the demand would be as great.
