Heat resistant galvanized tomato cages
 

Hello Everyone

I have lost tomato by using ols Non-Galvanized Tomato Cages that can't stand-up to this unusual het of over 80-101, we are have in my area today. So I did research on Tomato Cages. Only the Galvanized or Coated Metal- Galvanized Tomato Cages can with-stand this heat, without causing major damages to your Garden or Farms Plants. .

Only my Tomato cages that are Galvanized protected protection to my Crop. I only have 1 Red Coated Tomato Cage that I will used to keep my White Family Heirloom Tomato safe.

What is happening with the non-galvenized cages? I'm not sure I understand how that relates to heat.

The pure Iron Heavy Tomato Cages "Heated- up " and was to hot for me to pull them out in the Hot Sun. I had to put on gloves to protect my hand and fingers With Temperatures 95-103 in idirect sun index. They also burn-up my Tomato Dester Tomato Plants.
All the Plants in Galvanized Cages survived the 100 Temperatures.

Very interesting. White paint seems like it would be best to reflect away as much sun as possible. For my climate, I think I would actually prefer something that retains heat like rebar!

Rebar in my research have Galvanized costing, that I was just using to hole down ground covering or to support my high staking areas on my "Wood Support Permanent High Tomato Stalking" that is 8 feet tall. Next year since I know I have to protect the Plant & Tomato Cages from overheating, I will use my building skills from that code compliance class I took here in my city over 15 years ago to develop wood staking made with Galvanized Rebar that will be strong enough to support 6 plants 16 feet Heirloom Tomato Plants at on time that can be moved to different area during crop rotation.

My Amish Desters was looking so healthy I decided to remove the the Morning Glory shade to relieve stress off the plants for a healthy harvest. I did not know the heat index was staying at over 100-101 over the weekend. This is the first time in "my area for neck of the woods" to suffer consistent with temps over 100.

My Diener Heirloom Tomatoes "that are just only midseason" did well in all this Heat without me using any shade are special care. I will learn more about studying the Farmers Almanac before the start on my Farming Season next year to predict Temperatures over 100 in my area.

Well, I going to put out another young crop of my Amish Desters in this 80 Temperatures, Amen!!!

Sorry MrsJ, those puny coated cages would be useless for my tomatoes. I've got peppers that would fit them, but not tomatoes. I went out in the hottest part of the day and measured the temperature of my concrete wire cages and they were the same temp as ambient. I have never seen any heat related issues from the cages I use.

Did you suffer Temperatures over 100's with the heat index like we did here in Virginia for a whole month? I have Tall Permanent Stalking too; but this is my year for Crop Rotation to keep my soil healthy. So I uses Tomato Cages near the wooden fences around the farm area growing through 6 foot Tomato cages. Only the Amish Dester Tomato Plants were growing out in direct sun in the metal Tomato Cages that were not Galvanized.

It was so hot here that a zipper on the back of my clothes while trying to do quick farming oneday got so hot it was burning my skin and I had to come home and put on a T-shirt. I never thought about the Metal on the Tomato Cages getting overheated. Amish Deters and Hawaiian Pineapple are my most popular Items, most important crop. I removed the Shade of the Morning Glories to soon, and my six year old didn't want to go outside in the heat because last week-end.

So the mistake I made with my Amish Dester Heirloom Tomato Plants was Pruning and removing the shade at the same time in 101 temperatures heat index.

I am ending my Plant Sales and replanting; hoping for a harvest before your first Forest. Pray for me and my Plants. Amen!!

When Pruning and removing the shade of your Plants at the same time in 95-101 temperatures with heat index over 101; you remove shade protections from both Tomatoes and the Plants and the Tomato Cages that are un-galvanized.

I am cutting away all Morning Glory Protections from all my Farms. But I like the Pictures of Farmers and Gardeners Shade Cloths Methods while doing my research. seem in many pictures.
