Cucumber - Sir Crunch a Lot
OK, I used to grow Sweet Slice and loved it. Bought it from Park Seed.
This year, Park said they'd discontinued Sweet Slice and were offering Sir Crunch a Lot instead. So, I gave it a try this year. Big, lush vines. Only female flowers. And the taste? Mmmmm, OK. Nothing special in a a "burpless" slicer. And the yield? Oh, come on. Only two cukes per plant and the vines seem to have fizzled out for production, and it's only late June. Next time I think I'll seek out Sweet Slice again, or try Sugar Crunch (Burpee) which was a smaller cuke but more productive and pretty tasty too. |
I tried Sweet Success from a recommendation from ColeRobbie and have been happy with them. Large, productive and no bitter.

Highly recommend Sweeter Yet, I've grown that very successfully for the past 5 or 6 years. I have also found over the years, cucumbers like to be watered and fed more than most garden plants.

And if looking for a good OP cucumber, Suyo Long is one that we have had very good luck with. Their spines are bit pokey, but they easily rub off under some running water. Great flavor, they'll curl up if not trellised.

Sweet Success & Diva are my go to cucumbers. County Fair & Cool Breeze are great pickles.
