Applause Tomato
 

Applause is one of the first to ripen in my NW Wyoming garden that is a slicer size. I know some gardeners say it is mushy but that has not been my experience. It is a favorite down in Casper Wyoming on the wyogrow web site. I have grown it for 3-4 years but have been finding seed hard to come by. I can still get it from the Veseys web site but since it is not in their catalog I emailed them and it is being discontinued. This is heads up to get the seed ordered if you want to give it a try. I ordered 100 seeds so I will have to store it well. I do not know what is a good replacement as it is a 67 day determinate and produces heavy amount of fruits with a good flavor.

If you're really in love with that particular variety, it is possible to turn it from a hybrid into an open-pollinated variety within a few years, 3-4 I think. Save the seeds, grow them out next year, select the plant that is what you want and save seeds from that plant. Once you get to about the 4th year or so, your saved seed should all be true.

I tried Mountain Princess for two years and it just did not thrive. I will look at Ballada. I was also wondering about Polbig. I never thought about trying to save seed.

How did the Ballada do? I looked it up on Tatiana's site and it seems like it might be a little smaller than Applause. Applause is 10 -12 ounces. It is hard to find a earlish mid season of a decent size. Gregori's Altai might be one I need to grow again, but I am open to other's opinions.

It wasn't bad, but I like Cole better as an early saladette.

If you like pink, Pervaya Lyubov is a very early slicer. Just a few days later than Stupice but a decent sized beef. Sweet and tasty. It is indeterminate though. Crop wise, I can't rate it better than okay, as they tend to shut down early for me.

I checked on Vessey's web site because that was the last place I found Applause and they now have Bobcat which is a 10 0unce 68 days determinate and Mountain Merit. But at $6.25 for 15 seeds I will pass on the Mountain Merit. But I have noticed Bobcat in other catalogs like Feco and Territorial. Has anyone tried it?

Applause held up to TSWV better than some. I still have a small amount of seed for next year. I will try saving seed from the first ripe tomatoes.
