How many watermelons in an EB?

On EB's site, it says you can plant 4 to an Earthbox. That sounds like way too many to me. What have you all tried?
Also, I have never grown watermelon from seed. Do I sow the seeds around the same time I do my cukes and zukes?
Thanks!

Don't know about the earth box. It's sounds like maybe they intend for you to pinch off blossoms to reduce the amount of fruit. Anywho, watermelon seeds are easy to germinate, and the plants grow really fast.

So here is where the question is I looked today and couldn't fiond it again.
Cucumbers are horrible in any cool/cold weather.
Watermelons are right behind them.
So if it is good enough for cucumbers it is fine for water melons.
Don't pinch any blooms until you know you have good ones that are pollinated if at all.
I wont be pinchng any blooms.
My watermelon plants/seedlings are going gang busters right now.

Okay, so I sowed some watermelon seeds today, along w/ cukes & zukes. I have never grown watermelons, but I am assuming they will look more like cukes full grown, rather than huge and sprawling like zukes. Am I right?
So that means I can grow 4 in an EB, or even plant 1 watermelon w/ 1 tomato in 1 EB?
I'm getting excited about growing this new-to-me plant. I've been disappointed with watermelons for a couple of years now, even the ones from the farmer's market have not been good, so hopefully a home grown one will be better :).

Yes they will be a long vine unless you got a bush type.
Watermelons are a fruit that gets better if they dont have wet feet.
They like water but they dont want to be swimming all of the time.
You will know when they are ripe when the tendrils next to the melon are dead.
This is the number one reason you cant buy a good melon at the store they are picked too soon.
The same with cantaloupes.
If you see a vine hanging from the thing it isn't worth buying.
The vine should slip or pop off the fruit when it is ripe.
Neither one will get sweeter after it is picked.

I have no idea if you can get away with a watermelon vine in the same container as a tomato plant.
More than likely so, it will just take up much more water.
Another problem will be what are you going to do with the vines?
