Tomatobob's Heirloom Tomatoes

Preface: I'm a new and inexperienced tomato grower so possibly not the best person to ask about seed quality.

Other than buying seedlings from the local grocery store, TomatoBob was my first purchase of tomatoes for my garden. So far I've dropped and popped about a dozen seeds from them with 100% germination rate. I have not yet harvested any tomatoes but they are growing vigorously and I expect to be plucking some black cherry tomatoes in a couple weeks.

I thought their prices were about the going rate when compared to others. They included a few packages of freebies and my order arrived promptly.

Thank you for your welcome to Tomatoville! I'm currently growing them in my basement (pics here).

What an awesome winter setup! Good for you, getting tomatoes at New Year's. What kind of lights are you using?

Very nice!

Thanks. In my big tent I have two Lighthouse Hydro Blackstar 240w and one 2ft x 8 bulb (4-6500K, 4-3000K) T5 fluorescent as side lighting. The actual wattage on the LEDs is about 135 watts (not 240) which brings my total wattage in the big tent to 462 watts. In the small seedling/starter tent I have a single 125 watt CFL (6400K).

Awsome, and your plants look very very happy, what fertilizer and soil mix are you using?

Jeff, nice setup. If your growing indeterminates it's going to get crowded in there unless you keep your plants trimmed. Otherwise that would be a great setup to grow some dwarfs from the dwarf project here at Tville. Here are a few pics from my dwarf grow out. Ami

Thanks. I'm using Autopots (automatic bottom feeding pots) that I have buried a flexible air diffuser in river stones in the bottom and then topped with Just Right Xtra mix (see attached brochure). I am feeding with General Hydroponics Flora series nutrients in my RO water with CalMag. They seem to like it. I've been impressed with the Autopots and I'm still not sure if I'll go with them or some homemade hybrid hydroponic system for my outside growing this year.

Thank you and you are very correct. It is getting quite crowded in my tent and I'm going to have to start doing some bending and trimming. Being a total tomato newbie I was thinking "how big could cherry tomatoes get?"... whoops! I like the idea of dwarfs as it seems like I could grow a larger variety in my small space. I'll use "the Google" but would appreciate any links.
