I grew out my earl Faux X Cherokee green F1 seeds this year. And to my surprise in the F1 I saw some variant I got a real big orange tomato with green in the background and when you slice it open it's pink flesh with Green Seed cavities. the flavor was not at all like most oranges it was super acidic and sweet don't mean to sound braggadocious but the flavor was outstanding I sure didn't expect to see anything until the F2 seeds I wonder why it showed a variance in the F1 seeds

Congrats , Charley! Very nice color and shape.

Are you going to keep it at F1 or try to stabilize it ?

charley May 16, 2017 10:41 PM

Yes whistech i think i will grow out 65 plants this fall .but the hard part will be what to look for.how do you pick one out of so many plants.i also back crossed earl faux to the plant and it took .so what should i do with that one.i know in the f2s i will look for potatoe leafs but what else should i look for

Yep gardeneer im going to try to grow out 2 generations per year.caint wait till tis fall to see all the different colors. I ate one today and it tasted like a plum.acidic and sweet with fruity notes in it.all meat with small gel pockets. I gave one to a guy thats works for me and he said he didnt know a tomato could taste like that.im going to eat one tomorrow and see what color the skin is.

Go, Charlie! If you have something as pretty as your first picture that is also tasty, try to stabilize that! Well, if you're growing out 65 plants this fall, why not save seeds from any & all that have at least one or two good attributes?
- the one that survives disease best (if you get any disease)
-the most productive
-the prettiest
-the tastiest
and by all means save seed of any that have all of the above! That way you can pick & choose which to grow out first.

I'm really happy for you!
Nan
