Seeds germinating they started in less than 24 hours.
You will notice the pipe at the bottom right of the pictuer stubbed up.
This is the feed from my underground watering system.
Once the plants are up to a good size I will just set it back in.
It is 3 1/2 drip lines on a header.
When I do this I will put a fitting on it for a water faucet and use a union.
That way when I want to use the faucet for something I can turn on zone 2 by remote control.
It will turn off by itself depending on what I set for a manual timeout or manually.

This is how I lay out rows with a 5 foot piece of angle iron.
There are 4 rows and about 50 or more seeds planted I will thin later as needed.

Yes I can.

My onion bed is starting to look like your raised beds. I didn't solarize the onion bed and there are hundreds of weeds popping up...maybe not that many.

That onion bed is full if those little trees you showed a pictuer of the other day.
The other culprit is the sticky weed.
One end of it closest to the middle is now planted with more okra .
This Okra in both beds is Cow Horn.
So I will have around 200 okra plants hopefully.
I am doing to try sweet potatoes as a living mulch in one of them and grow okra with them.
Probably a big fail. :))
For mulch I have a huge pile of decomposing cedar elm leaves.
After the plants get up to about a foot I will pile on the mulch in the other parts of the bed.

Folks in this pictuer you will see a big hump in the far upper right hand corner of the bed.
It is a fire ant mound.

Yesterday I chopped it down with my grape hoe spread the soil out and took off.
There were some ticked off ants I have to say.
The whole bed was covered in fire ants.

This morning before sun up I went out and tilled the soil down about 10 inches with my hoe.
Even into the fire ant mound more.

As soon as they settle down again I will get rid of as many grass roots as I can and plant the long pod green okra there.
There wasn't one worm or grub in the whole bed.
I think the fire ants killed or ran them all off.
As bad as I hate to do it I am going to have to use Amdro on them.
This mound started on the outside of the bed and they have worked their way into this corner.

I cant count how many times I have had to run in the house to pull my pants off to get them off my legs, I am tired of it.
I got covered the other day when I ran the weed eater over the bed.
Plus fire ants will ruin okra.

Okay I went back out and finished digging up the area and removing as many grass roots as I could.

I then used up the rest of the Plant Tone, I had about 3 pounds worth and raked it into the soil.
Leveled with the leaf rake and put in 6 rows this time.:shock:
That is 3 pounds in 30 square feet we will see how that goes.:))
The bed next to it has nothing and will feed it with ladybug organic liquid plant food, 3-1.5-2.
Both will also get Alaska Fish fertilizer 4-1-1 on top of that if needed.
If there is slow growth I will acidify with vinegar.
Okra is a high energy plant and faster it grows the more tender the pods are.

Maybe just maybe I will have enough plants after the snails get their share.
When it stops raining and they sprout I am going to pour on the snail bait.

I just got all the seeds in the ground tools put up and it is about to rain cats and dogs.
Just in time I am so glad I got up at 4:30 AM to do this.

I found one earthworm.

ol' 57 Chevy onto a weedy patch of grass. Stopped at a famous cafeteria style joint for
fried okra and all the fixins'. Must have disturbed them getting out of the car. Getting
back in i was hit by lightning. Wow did that hurt. Never forget it.

I get bit almost every day.

Year ago I was watering a new tree as a landscaper on Fort Hood Texas.
It was next to an on base store and people were everywhere.

I had faded blue jeans on.
There was no mound or nest.
But the ground was cracked around the base of the tree's watering hole.
I looked down and my pants were brown all the way up to my waist and on my tee shirt with fire ants.
I had millions of them on me.
They were boiling out of the cracks in the ground.
As god is my witness I tell you all right now I took my cloths off down to my underwear right there in public.
Pants, boots, socks, shirt, hat and all and started washing them off with the hose.
Nobody said a word as they saw the ants on me.:lol:
