Meet Grandpa' Wright's Red Tomato

1 Attachment(s)
I picked up an heirloom a week ago at the Jasper, Georgia farmer's market from the family that has been maintaining this seed for close to 100 years. When I tasted it, I was wowed by the full rich flavor and nice meaty texture. I went back this weekend for more, and got the following information about the tomato. I need to go back and get Grandpa's full name 😊!

Grandpa Wright's Red Tomato
Acquired from Vendor at Jasper, Ga Farmers Market in August 2015
Family heirloom from Tate Georgia, saved by the vendor's great grandfather who is now deceased. The vendor who is in his 20s and his father were both at the market. They do not know where Grandpa got the seeds. Another heirloom was a mid-size yellow and red bicolor.

Plants are babied grown in raised beds. I will be saving seeds to see how the plants perform for me next year. They save seeds by letting fruit rot, then clean gel and freeze. Segregate plants from other varieties by 1/2 mile.

Nice find, Adriana! Big, beautiful, perfect tomato! I hope you will save some seeds from this one to share, hint, hint. :cute:

that's a nice looking tomato

Adriana, gorgeous!

Is the name what the vendor calls it?

AdrianaG August 10, 2015 07:29 PM

I'll be happy to share seeds. I need to go back to the market next week to pick up my Bat House, I'll get a few more Grandpa' Wright (Whites?) and ask more questions.
- Grandpa's full name
- growth
- yield
What else should I ask?

Yes, that's what they call it. (Although I do need to double-check that it was Wright and not White...the name of their grandfather)

Regular or potato leaf?
Determinate or indeterminate?
Early, mid or late season?

Perhaps the last 2 are covered by 'growth'...

Put me on your list of people who want to trade you seeds for some of what you save.

How generous of you

This looks like a perfect tomato and you vouch for the flavor. If it proves relatively disease and heat resistant, I'd sure like a few seeds if possible.

I forgot to mention that I have many heirlooms to trade

And I suggest that if you are going to share seeds of it in the future that you do it not here in your thread, rather, please do so in the seed forum where everyone who is registered here can see your offer. And that b'c not everyone reads every thread here and would not know you were willing to share seeds only with those who ask for seeds in a specific thread.

I'm just trying to be helpful here since this kind of situation has happened before, there were hard feelings, so I really think it best to make seed offers to anyone who wants them who is a registered member here in the seed forums and one needs to be a registered member to post in the seed forums.

Hope that helps,:)

Carolyn

That message was especially for you. I have already registered my tomatoes on the trade list

If by saying you you meant me, since you posted right after my post, then I guess I'm confused.

I was referring to Adriana's new tomato and making a suggestion.

I just went to the TRADE seed subforum and see no threads/posts by either Adriana or by you and was looking since you said you registered? your tomatoes in the trade list, aka subforum.

Please help unconfuse me b/c I'm just not following what you are posting here.

Thanks in advance,

Carolyn

adrianaG, I'm in Waycross not far from Jasper, is the market open every week-end and how will I know the vender ? Just started container gardening seriously this year, I'm retired now, and have the time. Maybe we could meet some week-end.

Sorry, I actually posted the seeds I have on Daves Garden and not Tomatoville. How do I find the subfolder so I can add seeds that I want to share.
