Karzelek Pulawski
 

Hello everyone,
looking for information and photographs of this dwarf tomato if anyone has grown it?
Would especially like to see a photo of the whole plant if possible

Karen,
this variety comes from Poland and is almost forgotten now. I do not know, if anyone in Poland has the seeds. My friends, who are collecting Polish tomatoes, found the seeds of Karzełek Puławski in US.

Karzełek Puławski was raised about 60 years ago. I haven't found any photos. The only information I found, is coming from the book published in 1956. Description is very short: very early, 50 cm height, stiff stems, medium-seized fruit, planting distance: 40x40, 100x20, 80x30 cm. And additional info: cracks after rain.

I actually already have the seeds but I am just looking for information to see if I should grow them out and it seems I should and share some to keep it going!

This one is an old Polish OP variety. Karzelek means "dwarf" in Polish, and Pulawski refers to the town Pulawy in Poland.

Andrey is right about the name. In Puławy, small city in Poland, was lokated one of the branches of The Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute. This governmental institiution bred and registered Karzełek Puławski. The Institute has a gene bank, but I did't find Karzełek at the database.

And funny thing. I pass everyday, branch of this institiute on ma way to work. I didn't know about that. :) I call them today and try find any information about KP.

I haven't found any new information about KP. Institute I mentioned before, doesn't grow tomatoes anymore. They work on new cultivars of potatoes or oily plants. But I will remember about KP. ;)

Thank you Dorota, I have sown it with my greenhouse testing group. I believe my seed came from a Canadian swap, either Heathers or Nicky’s so if anyone who has grown it sees this thread please chime in.
Interested to see it grow now.

Czech gene bank has seeds of Karzelek Bialy, Karzelek, Karzelek Chodowski, Karzelek Pulawski and Karzelek Zielotni.

I found an article form 1973. Author was making experiments on Karzełek Puławski. There are two pictures, but both of them are very poor quality. They reminded me of old printing technologies. :)

looks like a large RL rugosed leaves on small plants, medium sized I would presume red fruit. Interesting. seeds I planted aren't up yet hopefully soon.

haha :) small plants, big leaves looks like to me, mostly assumtions based on the dwarfs I have grown I suppose. not a cherry, not big = medium in my books. Red is just an assupmtion based upon the fact that it was a commercial variety in the 70`s.... I think pretty well all commercial tomatoes in that era were red. still are for that matter.
