The ideal pH for eggplant growth is from 5.5 to 6.4.

Leaves are curling you say?

Did you check the undersides of the leaves for aphids?

Those little buggers suck the sap out of the plants quick enough to stunt their growth.

I grow only the variety "Black Beauty" and thus far my 6 plants have yet to put out a flower up here in Massachusetts. :)

In my experience (two years worth), eggplant is slow to recover from transplant shock. After they are settled in they take off. I water them in with liquid kelp which is reported to ease transplant shock and give then a handful of compost.

I've seen leaves curling under in the evening and return to normal during the day. I'm not sure if that is an eggplant habit.

eggplant happiness

I m glad to report that my eggplants are doing much better. I even have a flower on one . The ones in the front yard seem to be doing better, maybe b/c the ph is lower than in the garden. :?
But that is ok with me, as long as i get one eggplant i will be the happyest camper. :D
My peas did bite the dust ,something ripped them out.
