Tomatopalooza™ 7 Announcement
Announcing the seventh annual Tomatopalooza™ heirloom tomato tasting!
We will be holding our seventh annual event this year at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh, NC. Date : 7/25/2009 Time: 1pm~4pm This year marks a more laid back event than the spectacular ones of the past two years. We will be in shelter 7 at the park only 30' from the waterside! See http://tomatopalooza.org/ for more information and directions. Please post here if you have questions/comments or are planning to attend. Lee |
Lee,
I am planning to attend. Howard |
How are the TP7 plans coming along?
Do we have a list in the making? I SHOULD be there. Greg |
Well...my daughter Sara just dropped this bomb on Sue and I!

Very nice.
Plans are all set. Just waiting to hear who's coming and what they're bringing. Post here and I'll be sure to have lists and name cards printed and available. Lee |
Once I get a good set of email responses (if I do???), I will email names to you, Lee, and numbers, if specified. Not too many thus far - I am getting the sense lots of people are out of town right now.

I am definitely coming but won't know what I am bringing for several more days. I am hoping some of the dwarf varieties will be ready by then. Otherwise it will probably be some combination of Lillian's Yellow, Anna Banana Russian, Andrew Rahart Jumbo Red, Akers West Virginia, Mortgage Lifter, German Johnson, Green Zebra, Mule Team, Nepal, Abe Lincoln, Little Lucky, Brandywine, Rose Quartz, and Coyote.

We'll be coming! Anxiously waiting to see whether any blacks will be ready to travel (they're my sole hope at this point). Scattered cherries that I am fighting the catbirds for otherwise - darn that pH of 8 in my expensive purchased "topsoil blend".

Hi Greg and Lee,
What should I plant to bring in addition to tomatoes? Plates, knives, forks, spoons, balsamic vinegar, salt, tables, napkins, paper towels, trash bags, folding canvas chairs? Sarah and I have cooked up two batches of oven roasted heirloom tomato sauce that we would like to share, and can bring plastic spoons and forks and a loaf of crust bread to cube up and dip into the sauce. Is there electricity? I have a digital picture frame that I can load up with pictures of garden, fruit, etc, but it is not battery powered. Since this is my first Tomatopalooza, I am trying to plan ahead. Thanks, Howard |
Hi Howard,
I think we've got most of the items on your list covered. Since it's at a local park, they've got the trash cans, tables, chairs, etc... already available. And someone else has already got the utensils, plates, paper products. Your sauce sounds great though. That would be a wonderful addition. I don't know if there's electricity out at the shelter or not. You could always bring your picture frame, and we could use it if a plug is around. Thanks for checking in! Lee |
I'll be there! DH and the kids are tagging along as well but only because I bribed them with the promise of a snagging a few nearby geocaches and being able to attend the Tides/Bulls baseball game while I am schmoozing with the maters. Their loss.
I have ripe/ripening Cherokee Purple Sweet Sue (Globe) Japanese Black Trifele (a grow out from the RL globe shaped one last year) JBT, (true form) Wild Fred Bella Rosa Hybrid Big Sungold Select (from Rheinhard Kraft via Carolyn) Summertime Green Coyote Hoping to have (but odds don't look good) Green Giant Giannini Ceman Kosovo |
