Emerald City F5 grown over winter. Producing cute little striped mini beefsteaks with a bright green interior.
On to the F6 for spring. Planting all my dwarfs tomorrow! I’m quite happy with this one on a compact little dwarf. Happy first day of spring! I will use this thread to amalgamate all of my dwarf tomatoes from several projects. All my dwarfs from various parents will be updated in this “ short and sweet” thread from now on. Makes it simpler for me to keep track. I’ll start another 2021 thread for the big ones KarenO |
Great!! I'm looking forward to your posts. Nice to have everything in one thread.
Beautiful little tomato, btw  Anne |
Looking forward to more posts and tomato pictures, Karen!

Love following your projects Karen, thanks for taking time to post!

Best of luck in your growing season my friend!!

Three F1 micro plants I have growing currently from a new cross. The pots are 4” for perspective. They are very small plants but with an open habit not the super scrunched extreme dwarf often seen in micros. This is a form I like. Quite a normal looking plant but miniature.
These were very early to bloom. Set first fruit under 40 days from sowing seed. On their own they are not my vision but crosses to my much better tasting new dwarfs might be the answer to a micro I can be proud of. Building blocks... but the form, the size and the earliness are in this little hybrid I made. Three-way crosses are new for me but that’s the plan for these, one crossed fruit is almost ripe now. KarenO |
Very nice looking tomato babies:)
|
Thanks :) these are maturing fruit :)
Little fellas |
Hello Karen,
3-way crosses are really a new idea. What are you going to call them? They would be perfect for my purpose. And they don't have to be at the top ten in terms of taste. Where can I get seeds? Milan HP |
Thanks Milan I have No names yet, this is a new addition to my projects. I will see what happens with them and I am far away from any releases. These little plants are ahybrid I made and I am just just working with them as a breeding line, seeing what I can get by crossing them to other of my own small dwarfs that I’m happy with the flavour of. I think many micros are too late to bother with or have average to poor flavour and have a scrunched up overly Rugose habit that promotes disease due to poor air flow. Or on many cases all three of those big problems. These are different than what’s typical and that’s what I’m trying to do. I am trying to make something original that satisfies my desire for an earlier little dwarf with a nice habit and flavour that i like. No guarantee of success but I’m giving it a try so time will tell. I think it’s possible. I’ll post as I go
KarenO |
Hello Karen,
I'll keep all my fingers crossed for you. And I really mean it. If you succeed, some of my problems at home will be solved. I believe you will succeed as you obviously know what you are doing.:D Milan HP |

Thank you Dan ! I’d love to see that. The world record holder growing my little dwarfs, how fun for me! This one at F6 so shouldn’t be much longer. The green potato leaf cherry Sweet Baby Jade is Growing F7 so might be ready to release in the fall depending on what Teresa and I think this summer. I have it blooming in my greenhouse so hopefully will have photos shortly. Waiting for some fruit to set KarenO |
Karen, Did I tell you that I grew a 6.22 lber. from Zena's gift seeds that you so kindly sent me to try out. I'm trying a couple dwarfs this year for the first time,,so we'll see how they do. I've got one side of my high tunnel that's to short for indeterminates so I thought I'd try dwarfs, I'm anxious to see how they do.

That’s fantastic!! I’ve long thought it had the potential for a big one. Do you have a picture? I will be sure to keep you in mind as soon as I have a stable dwarf. I’d love for you to try them KarenO |

Some of the 2021 dwarfs in the little greenhouse. The biggest plants are Sweet Baby Jade full height blooming and setting some cherries which will be gwr.
Potted up all the rest of this year’s varieties dwarf and indeterminate and moved them out to the greenhouse yesterday I’m pleased with the progress so far. About 4 weeks to plant- out time I believe KarenO |
they look so healthy Karen - what potting up mix did you use
|
Thanks! These are in Promix. I’m using a new to me organic promix soluble which I’m liking so far as well
KarenO |
ah yes - Promix - my favourite - went with something else this year and regret my choice .....

Everything is planted or potted up now. Growing well and many are blooming. Sweet Baby Jade on the verge to ripen any minute now. I’ll have to count the total number of dwarf plants from my breeding projects growing this year but it should be around 75. They will include micros, small and large dwarfs in cherry, Multiflora and saladettes on mostly potato leaf dwarfs with some RL selections as well. I’m excited to see how everything turns out this season there are some really interesting and original ones in the mix.F3-F7
KarenO  |
Great setup! How about showcasing all your F7's sometime?

Hi Charley :) There’s another thread for the big ones :) most at F6 only Chinook at F7 because it got a head start at Fred’s who grew the F6 over the winter. I think I called the thread KarenO’s 2021 tomato garden or something close to that . Those plants are all just getting going planted out last week. I’ll post some photos on the weekend maybe a video on northern gardener too. Happy with the plants so far and it’s finally supposed to warm up some on the weekend too so that’s a welcome change with nights finally over 10c I hope your season is going well so far? KarenO |
