tasti-lee tomatoes distributed by bejoseeds. Anyone seen these seeds available yet? , they are supposedly selling as trials in select markets this year.

I sent for a sample several months ago. I started them too early and lost most of them. I may have one plant left alive and 3 seeds left.

I've had an email in to Bejo for about 2 weeks trying to get seed for this year. I'll post if I get them.

I've been very disappointed with Bejo regarding their failure to produce several hybrids for which they have been given exclusive rights. Net result is we cannot enjoy certain combinations that the breeders intended for release.

With this I will agree Travis.

Remember that Randy Gardner and many of us were so disappointed that Bejo didn't come through with Mt Magic and Plum Regal when they were supposed to have done so, and I think it was assumed that that was due to problems with seed production. it's one of the reasons I did that seed offer here with those two and Smarty F1, seeds donated by Randy. I don't know if Bejo was behind Smarty F1, I just assumed so, but that one just appeared at Johnny's, so I don't know what the story there was.

Most of these are offered in large commercial amounts from Seedway and for some reason I get the e-mails they send out.

And remember how so many of us contacted Bejo reps and didn't get very far that way either.

So I guess we'll just have to wait to see what happens with Tasti-lee. it's not a hybrid I would grow but I do understand it has some genes that some who breed tomatoes would want to use in their projects.

Do you know of any other tomato varieties that Bejo has been subcontracted for at this point?

Of the North Carolina State University varieties, Bejo has the rights to produce Fletcher, Mountain Magic, Plum Regal and Mountain Merit. All except Mountain Merit appear to be available at this time, although for quite a steep retail price both in small packets or bulk seed.

Mountain Merit (NC 1 CELBR x NC 123S) has great appeal in certain regional markets due to its resistances to root knot nematodes, tomato spot wilt virus, late blight, and early blight. From the parents it would appear that Mountain Merit will have a strong determinate growth habit. With yellow leaf curl virus resistance added, this would be a nearly bulletproof tomato! Hopefully, Bejo will have it available soon.

I thought you might want to see this video on Tasti Lee Tomatos.

I bought some Tasti-Lee tomatoes at the local Publix Supermarket this week. Beats all of the other supermarket tomatoes by a mile, including Ugli Ripe. Its a good size, a nice slicer and somewhat close in flavor to a garden grown tomato; not as juicy, a bit firmer, but definitely better than anything else store-bought. Garaj

Leigh is a good kid (young lady) and I'm glad her tomato is a hit. Hopefully, they make it widely available.

How did Tasti Lee do, the one that survived, I mean? I thought the ones at Publix were just so so, but wonder if they taste better when home grown
