Cucumber support: Single line, or mesh?
This is my first year growing cucumbers (Eureka Hybrid), and have them in a bit of an odd spot in my raised bed. I'm trying to figure out the best support. The easiest would be to hang a line for each plant from some overhead support that is already there (approx 5 ft above soil level), but I don't know if they will climb a single line? or do i need more of a mesh grid type support.
It is seven plants, in two rows of 4, with one not having germinated. Thanks! |

Local support systems usually look like these.

Tenax hortonova mesh makes a great cucumber and pole bean trellis.
Better than string IMO. |
trellis is a better option than strings in my opinion. strings method is intensive pruning too. you can buy a 4" mesh right off the ferry morse seed rack or at TSC walmart etc they come in different lengths. there is also a fairly new plastic mesh available but I have to buy it in 100' lengths or more. it is economical and very light weight.

Thanks all. I do have some left over trellis mesh that I can hang, so sounds like that is the preferred route. Much appreciated.

String
Mine do just fine in my greenhouse with a single piece of twine each. They will climb over 8 feet up.

Thanks Whoose. What is your plant spacing?
