Big league F2
 

Saved seeds from last year's big league F1 hybrids.very happy with the results.plants are waist high determinates.putting out more tomatoes than the originals.all four plants.fantastic.

Oh please, please tell me the number of mature days for your F2. The F1 says 47 days on most websites that sell seeds. But I found one commercial grower that gave a complete different number of days.

They went in the ground June 10th.pic is from today,so 80 days correct me if I'm wrong.all our tomatoes are a little late ripening from a cool wet summer.

any ripe ones , howès the taste. The greenies sure look nice

We've had a few ripe ones.very good taste,juicy and acidic.should have put a whole row in for canning our stewed tomatoes.I will keep seeds from the best plant and grow four next year.I've got F2 seeds left so I'm gunna put a whole row in next season also.can't beat the production.

Your plant looks amazing! I was so hoping they ripened early as they were listed on most of the seed websites. But with tomatoes that nice of size, I could not wrap my head around how it was possible.

You will surely have to update us on taste and production on your plants. I would be very interested in know how many pounds of fruit you get off your four plants is it? You know, just a rough estimate. I searched here & on the web for reviews on this variety. Almost no one reviewed it. The only one on Dave's Garden site was a neutral review with zero reason why. I'm thinking you must have liked it to seed save it.

If you liked it, there was another person looking for determinate tomatoes from Chicago looking for recommendations on plants with large sized tomatoes. It might be a nice variety to add staggered mature dates; early, mid season and late. Like in baseball to have all your bases covered. I think it was nniemiec who posted it.

Did a count this morning.plants average 50 fruits each.average weight is 8oz.nice medium size.So I am looking at roughly 25lbs per plant.good enough for me.they need a sturdy cage.I have cheap ones so I tied the cage to a stake.I'd sure like to find a plant like this that was indeterminate.

They look great. I would be thrilled with results like that. How do the F2s taste?

Where did you get the F1 seeds?

Well thank you.I bought the plants at a local nursery last year and thought I'd save those seeds and see how they did.just experimenting for fun.I've got the room so why not.they taste great sliced and we like them for canning too.truth be told any homegrown tomato tastes good to me.

Thanks for responding. I actually like the idea of a good productive determinate. I would just space sowing of them out and get a constant flow of tomatoes that way. I need to experiment more with determinates.

Also need to experiment with saving seeds from F1.

Had to harvest as there is a chance of frost on monday.the big league F2 s were good.average was 23lbs per plant.picked a couple fruit for seeds from best looking plant with the largest fruit.pic is fruit from one plant.Will be interesting to see how F3s do.

no ripe fruit? over 90 days is quite late for a tomato, especially a determinate. Was the Big League parent the same DTM?
The shape and size are very nice. what colour will they be?

We've been picking the odd one for a couple weeks now.every tomato in the garden is behind this year.cool wet summer.Had to harvest green/ just blushing.they are red.
