Rapid-gro fertilizer
I just found a 5 pound jar of RA-PID-GRO powder fertilizer hiding in my basement. I figured that I bought it about 1985. Chevron Chemical Company made this product. They stopped making it back in the 80's from what I read. The fertilizer appears to be in great condition as it was always keep in my house with the lid on the jar. The strength is 23-19-17 with 5 micro-nutrients. The price on the jar was $9.98 for the 5 pound container. Can anyone think of a reason to not use this product at 1/2 strength on my tomato plants maybe 1 time a month this season? I kinda feel like I just found a "diamond in the rough" here:D All opinions are appreciated >>>>>Talon

23-19-17?
It's not a set of numbers I'd use on tomatoes, but that's me. |
Flowers used to grow fabulously with it. I do not remember
it as having any trace elements, but geraniums did well in sand with about 6 inches of bark on top and RapidGro every 2 weeks. I seem to recall that the nitrogen in it was all nitrate (no ammonium compounds or urea). 1/4 teaspoon per gallon for an occasional foliar feeding for plants that are lagging a bit would probably work. |
