OxHeart tomato

Does anybody know when Oxheart tomato was first time mentioned? Or it's origin. Advanced thanks

loulac August 22, 2017 11:29 AM

I would suggest Cuor de bue from Italy, sold in the States by Franchi. There may be older ones...

According to the site Ventmarin http://ventmarin.free.fr/passion_tomates/tomates_cl_cz/tomates_cl-cz.htm Yellow Oxheart has been grown along generations in Virginia since 1915.

Dinner Plate, a red heart

This was my grandparents main tomato, along with Old Buckeye, a big yellow with a massive core in it. They grew mainly these two for many years, 30's and 40's and on up into the late 60's.

Grandfather brought the Dinner Plate to W. KY. from Southern Indiana when they retired. He was a gardener for the state of Indiana for many years. His parents had grown it for as long as he could remember. I would guess we're talking the late 1880's or 90's.

I have grown Orange Oxheart since the early 70's. Crop failure last year left me with no seeds.:(:( I'll find some somewhere, the coop can probably order me some.

Valerian, I think I can answer both of your questions, and had started to when I lost the post entirely

It's happened before and has something to do when I accidentally let my little finger on my left hand hit a key, and poof, all gone.

But I'll be back to try and do it again. I had to fetch some links and stupidly didn't save them to my faves first, so I have to fetch them again.

if you would type like many of us do, with the two index fingers, those pinkies wouldn't stray onto strange keys.

Does anyone know what this mystery key is?
It happens to me too.

loulac August 24, 2017 12:16 PM

Somewhere at the bottom left there's a key that sends the post before it's finished. Personnally I always type my posts first on Word if I think they will be a bit long, safety first.

Sometimes I hit something and it is gone completely.

It has happened to me many times too.
I suspect that instead of holding "shift" key I do the "ctrl" key. It depends which key you hit while holding "ctrl" key.

Thanks Gardeneer, you are on tne right track. Now I undertand that pressing the Ctrl key with a different one can lead to mysterious results.

All the best

All to say I forgot to come back and indicate where I think hearts were first mentioned, just too much on my to do list and not enough time.

Will do eventually.:)

I agree and had already saved the link intending to come back here and trying again to post.

http://www.victoryseeds.com/tomato_livingston-yellow-oxheart.html

I also went to Ventmarin to check out other heart varieties

And nothing before about 1900.

It is the Ctrl + N that makes it all go away. Ctrl + B makes it BOLD and ctrl + I makes it italicized ctrl and + makes the font bigger. -- I just learned this by doing it.
Ctrl plus - makes the font smaller
