Yes, they are very tasty! They did grow in my Dad's back yard for a few years and I would go out and gather them to cook.

Unfortunately, my Dad decided to "clean up" the fallen tree that they grew on. Darn it!
If he had asked me I would have come and taken it in a heart beat.

Might have to try one of those kits, myself!

I gave a Sh*take mushroom kit to my brother last Christmas. That thing produced over a pound in 2 flushes. He absolutely loved it and is now looking into buying the plugs to inoculate some logs in his back yard...looks like I created a monster!

Just in case anyone is interested, here is a link to Enasco. http://www.enasco.com/c/science/Live%20Materials/Mushroom%20Growing%20Kits/

They don't have Lion's manes, but last time I checked, this place had the least expensive Portabella kits around. That was a couple of years ago when I got one for my brother and myself. Ours both did great. Well worth the money spent!

They also have Sh*take and white mushroom kits.

That is really interesting I'm going to have to look into these kits.

I heard that if you take some plain yogurt and over-ripe mushrooms in a blender and pour it on the ideal type of rotting wood log in the shade that you'll be able to grow mushrooms that way also.

I should check out the area and see if there are any wild mushroom foraging groups in TX. When I was a kid I'd pick puffballs in the northeast. Those are so easy to find, and they're delicious with eggs.
