Tomatoberry

Has anyone grown the relatively new hybrid called "Tomatoberry"? I guess it's from the same folks that brought us SunGold.

I am trying it this year. I love the suspense of trying new tomatoes.

I got my seeds from Johnny's. Mabe we can compare notes.

housemouse--

I don't have it... yet! I may try to pick up a transplant just to try it out. The seeds were outrageously expensive, but I suppose that's all part of the marketing strategy!

I purchased some seeds from Johnny's also. Sowed my first tomato seeds on the 27th, Tomatoberry among them. Cute looking tomato, should be fun to see what happens.

Just a quick update on this plant: It's growing like crazy at this point and has set around 150 fruit easy. This thing is so far out-producing and out-growing Sungold. It's a monster. Fruit has blushed but not yet ripened.

I'll try to post some photos later.

Is that the black-fruited one I've heard about?

hunter July 9, 2007 01:30 PM

Johno-

Nope. Tomatoberry is a newer Japanese hybrid supposedly from the same folks that brought us Sungold. It's a cherry that resembles a strawberry. I suppose I'd say it's an oxheart cherry. Very attractive overall.

Haha! Not yet, Bully! You're not making the wait any easier!

Does Johnny's have an exclusive on Tomatoberry this year? This is the first I've heard of it.

I scored some seeds through Trade Winds Fruit for a lot less than JSS's price.

bully September 7, 2007 04:28 PM

Well?

how were they?

hunter September 10, 2007 10:13 PM

I thought they were pretty good. Nothing earth-shattering, but meaty and tasty. I'll grow them again for sure.

Do they crack badly??? Are they productive???
