Purple Pepper Plant Leaves

Some leaves of my overwintering pepper plants are turning purple under the grow lights. This is happening on jalapeno, Thai white chile, Jalafuego and Tabasco. Plants were trimmed way back and debugged before being brought inside several weeks ago.

Good Bad or No Big Deal. Lights on 12/12, not over watered.

All opinions valued!

What is the temperature?

MuddyBuckets November 17, 2021 11:03 AM

Typical indoor temperature 68*-70* plus some heat from the grow lights.

Quite a few veggies turn purple when they are short of phosphorus. The other possibility is low temperatures which don't allow them to take enough of it from the soil. Maybe that's similar with peppers.

Generally, the goal of overwintering pepper plants is just keeping them alive. A bit if fertilizer might help but I don’t think it’s a big worry unless you are trying to do more than just keep them alive

Are they LED grow lights? Mine often get weird under LED shop lights, not balanced correctly for plants.

Yes. Very good point

Yes, grow lights are LED, 3 different types. These units state they are "full spectrum" for plants.

I would move them out of direct light to indirect light and remove ALL the leaves, and prune the branches to no more than 12" high as long as you keep the temp in the 60 to 70 range.

Have a picture -- using regular daylight or room lighting? I've never seen that in peppers.
