Slide show of the GH build

I was given the info on this site from a friend and have been skimming over it a little at a time trying to learn and improve the little knowledge that I have on growing maters. I have tried many times and failed often so as I have time I enjoy reading what's going on in the world of maters. I had been wanting to put together a GH using a couple old carport frames that I had picked up for almost nothing. Here is a short slide show of the almost finished construction. Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Jeez nothing like starting small! You're gonna have so many tomatoes you might have to start your own tomato-throwing festival.

The only structural comment I have is to wonder how well the arches are tied together.

bobcatgardener February 24, 2017 06:40 PM

Lol as for starting small I was going to only build half of it out this year. And go from there. But after my pops came with me to visit Rajun's GH he was hooked and ready to put the whole thing up. So that's how the whole thing went wrong. I blame it all on Rajun!

As of now I just have 2 runs of top rail screwed to them. I am planning on adding 2 more runs for the side rows. I will go from there. We had winds around 40 mph gusts and it was barely moving. So gonna see from there. If something bad comes Thru I have no issues cutting the plastic. It's easily replaceable.

Lawdy, you could park two RVs in there!

bobcatgardener February 24, 2017 07:00 PM

Lol that's what they were used for at 1 time!

Rajun Gardener February 24, 2017 08:13 PM

Don't blame me, you said it was Pops so that means it's in your genes too.:))

This year will be a learning project but even if you fail there's enough plants to give a good harvest. Ain't no crawfishing now, it's too late.:)):))

bobcatgardener February 24, 2017 08:20 PM

Hell I been watching bobby's videos for so long I got be atleast halfway there lol!!

BigVanVader February 24, 2017 09:13 PM

Very nice and very good idea. I'd probably add a second floor lol.

bobcatgardener February 24, 2017 09:15 PM

Lol on the second floor and thank you.

bobcatgardener March 2, 2017 06:41 PM

Here's another quick update on the GH. The wife took the pics so they could have been better, but we will just make the best of it!

The growth is amazing for just 1 week! Well at least it is to me.

I like the high side walls of the GH. Nice layout.

Black Krim January 26, 2018 08:09 PM

lol viewing that GH of course led to all the utube GH and tunnels...marathon viewing. Thank you.

bobcatgardener January 26, 2018 09:12 PM

It's been awhile since I have been on here. I have added on the the GH since this and I am trying to get it together to plant soon. Thanks for watching.

Rajun Gardener January 26, 2018 09:49 PM

Slacker!!! Here's what you miss when you're not here. I know you can't possibly plant more but maybe....

Gonna have the tables up tomorrow in the nursery... always room for more. Might not get rid of them all but oh well better to have and not need than to not and miss out!

bobcatgardener February 22, 2018 09:43 AM

It has been awhile since I have posted here. It has been a fun ride so far with the Hydroponic HT. To this point the ride has included an add on to each side of the HT, adding more room for a trough system I wanted to try and the other addition a nursery portion.
I have also purchases a new to me HT that is 34 x 65 that I hope to have up and running for the fall! About 450 new buckets for maters and cukes.

Here is a walk through from last week.
The strawberries are doing so good that I order 100 more to build a strawberry wall.

Enjoy any advice or comments would be greatly welcomed!

Holy Cow!!! You have built an amazing set up!! The chocolate reeper made my eyes bug out!!!! Well done.

bobcatgardener February 23, 2018 08:49 AM

Thank you Black Krim. Like I said it has been a fun ride. The learning and researching has been a great part of it. Can't wait to get the new to me HT up. Then space won't be a factor on my plans!
The CR plant was picked up on a whim. Was looking for a bell pepper plant in August. That's all they had so planted it. Inwas surprised how it grew with no pruning and at 50 degree temps through most of the winter.

As I tell my boys, everything evolves as we learn.......

bobcatgardener February 23, 2018 09:40 AM

Man I like that quote! I will have to steal it !

Old School February 25, 2018 10:39 AM

Nice setup  Looks like a lot of time and effort put into it but the payout, ah yes, the payout

bobcatgardener March 2, 2018 08:41 AM

Thanks Old School! It's been some work but it gonna get to be alot more with the new GH on the way!

bobcatgardener March 2, 2018 08:42 AM

Here's another video a little more in-depth with what's going on around the GH. There's bug damage that I have worked on to try and get rid of.

Nice setup there bobcatgardener. I am still in the planning phase here in PA. We got a dusting of snow this morning. It was in the 60's a few days ago :?!?: I hope my peach tree doesn't wake up too soon with these weird temperature swings. I grow in raised beds but enjoy learning different growing methods. Thanks for sharing :D

bobcatgardener March 2, 2018 11:29 AM

Thanks again old school.
I lived in Ohio for 3 years right on the west Virginia border and 45 min from Pittsburgh. Was a nice area but this southern boy never got used to that weather. I was always out of wack, thinking it should be warm and was still getting snow. Or not wearing shorts for Christmas!

It was sure different for me

Old School March 2, 2018 12:21 PM

Very true. I lived down in Western North Carolina for about 6 years and lived in Central Tennessee for a bit. The Winter season was much shorter there. I remember the trees having leaves in March in NC. We barely see buds on them here in PA. I can't plant without serious frost concerns until mid May here. My potatoes, peas, and radishes will be planted in April though. I can't wait but watching your stuff avidly growing helps out quite a bit :)

bobcatgardener March 2, 2018 12:38 PM

Thanks for watching. If you have any questions please feel free to ask questions.
I do this as a journal more than a show how it's done. I don't monetize it and will never monetize it.

I am 44 with a 2 year old. If something ever happens to me he should always be able to find these videos on YouTube.

Pulse I can always go back and see what things were like the year before at a certain time. And don't have to worry about where it's stored or if the back up will still work.

bobcatgardener March 14, 2018 07:54 AM

Another update with the trough / constant flow systems. Tomatoes are doing good. Cucumbers are hurting from the recent cold weather.

ddsack March 14, 2018 10:28 AM

I have enjoyed watching your videos, I'm always up for learning new methods that others use. It's great you have the skill and tools and room to do hydroponics on your own. Wish I could stroll through your greenhouse in person, we still have snow on the ground. :cute:

Great looking setup ya got there!
