I stopped by Wall-Mart for the sole purpose of looking for seeds the other day. It looked like a bomb went off in the garden section nothing out. But they did have some onion bulbs all it said was yellow red or white onion nothing else. Who the heck wants that. What I am looking for is radicchio seeds and cant find any. Will go out again today and look but by the time they get everything out it will be too late for Texas. Worth |
Maybe this should have been posted in Seed and Plant Sources, sorry if the moderator wants to move this it's Ok with me.

I wouldn't worry about it, it looks like a good place to me. Heck there is a long thread about lettuce in the general discussion section for tomatoes.:)) Worth |
They had a very small spot set up for this.Come spring it will expand greatly. This store was turned into a super WalMart a few years ago and does a great business.
|
I'm going to start my seeds in wet paper towels and then plant them in the plugs. This way I know what seeds germinated.
|
Curious what time of year you start with you being North of me. I'm thinking about starting from seed this year myself. Haven't done it in years.
|
Pepper seed will start mid March and tomato seeds mid April.Planting last week of May.With this mild winter weather I don't know what spring will be like.

Thanks for the info. Warm down here today too.

I was out today but it was so crowded I came home. Let me look tomorrow and I will get back with you. I love the stuff bitter herbs go very well with a good non bitter beer. It sounds like I am an alcoholic some times here but trust me I'm not. Worth |
Went into Wal to get some 18x3'' tray kits (were best best last year), and they were still in the move Christmas and put the garden center back in bombed mode also. They didn't have the ones I was looking for, but had the jiffy 72 cell peat kits for a $1. Closing out ?? At that price, I brought 2 cases and will use for trays and domes.

I definitely have radicchio seeds. Pm me your address and I will send you some.

Mine is the Early Treviso, red, slightly 'tall'. Seeds are very tiny so I'm sure there are at least 100.

To me a salad just isn't a salad without it and it is so darn expensive at the store. Thanks. Worth |
I would like to thank both of you guys.
Before I have just bought the sets at the store and they were sky high compared to how much I eat this stuff. I mean I like it so much that if I am at a salad bar and it is in the salad I will pick it all out and leave none for the rest I dont care I am greedy when it comes to it.:)) I have never grown it from seed before and am looking forward to it. Worth |
I was raised on rapini,I think if you saute it in olive oil like rapini that would be very good. Will have to look for it around here.:D

I just looked on line at our store prices for Radicchio.
They want $4.97 a pound for it.:( I looked and suppliers sell to grocers at from 350 to 400 grams average per head. 400 grams is 14 ounces just 2 ounces under a pound. So you are looking very close to 4.50 a head for the stuff. No wonder it isn't rolling off the shelf. When I was at the store the other day looking for seeds another lady customer asked me what I was looking for and I told her. She had no idea what I was talking about. After I explained to her what it was she then knew but had no idea that is what it was called. Worth |
