hello ...thanks for the new forum

:)
hello everyone.
i am very happy to find this website, since i have been unable to post on gw's tomato forum for the last few weeks. i guess i need to upgrade my internet equipment.

i am happy to see some of my favorite tomato friends here.
i've been very busy here in texas building new beds,.(i have doubled the size of my garden, thanks to you folks,..earl and bully are probably going to cause my back to go out on me again..they are too generous with their seeds
)... moving railroad ties, filling beds with garden soil, forking wood chips for walkways, constructing 7 foot tomato cages (only 30...but it seemed more like 300),shredding, and spreading leaves, collecting hay and manure... i'm shooting for the biggest sad sac grown this year...LOL...

carolyn, i was so proud to hear of your progress with your diet..i think you've inspired a lot of us to thin down...thank you.
i just wanted to say hi, and thanks for the new website..

Hi jeri, good to see you here.

"...earl and bully are probably going to cause my back to go out on me again..they are too generous with their seeds."

Yep, it's always their fault...but they mean well. :-)

"...i'm shooting for the biggest sad sac grown this year."

With all that work you're doing, I do believe you could be right!! :o

Jeri, I'm in the metroplex. Fine list there -- I can definitely see the some of the Earl/Bully Influence. :)

You'll have to let me know how Sioux, Orange Heirloom, and Lillian's Yellow do for you.

Yep, this weather sure is something. I've already started putting my seedling flats out during the day, and will probably be planting up about 12 or so containers worth of earlies and compacts sometime next week. Varieties like New Big Dwarf, Kimberly, Lime Green Salad, Azoychka, Mountain Princess, Taxi, Green Grape-stuff like that.

Not more than I'm willing to pull into the garage on the one or two nights that I'll likely need to protect them.

Were you planning on planting a couple early?

Lee February 2, 2006 09:57 PM

Glad to see more people growing Orange Heirloom.
It really is a fine variety.
Jeri, you'll have to let me know what you think of it this
season.

i have 2 brothers in the metro plex
....one is a gardener...one is a fisherman....i love them both...and i'll never admit the one that makes me gush the most!..(because it's a tie! LOL)

lee....thank you for noticing that i'm growing orange heirloom.
i saw the picture of your orange heirloom you posted last summer....i fell in love.... i can hardly wait to try that beauty!

i am so happy to be able to talk to all of you....

Come on in and join the rest of us tomato-heads. :D

P.S. My avatar is a Boney M I grew in 2005. Really like those small maters, good tart/bold taste! Thank you!

Oldseed February 3, 2006 01:29 PM

.....say, Andrey...ummm...you would not be going to to your local market this summer and buying tomatoes would you? Belarus must have some very nice heirloom varieties! Wait! don't throw that  ...dang.

I'm going to have to find some good trading seeds.

jermen February 3, 2006 03:39 PM

Looks like this forum's where the party is now!

Andrey_BY February 4, 2006 02:22 AM

Welcome, Mark!

I have more ultra early, cold tolerant and tasty varieties for this season.

And my avatar is our national Belarusian flag (second edition so far, very similar to what we had in Soviet Union times)

Seems to me Mischka was very fond of Green Mile movie (starring Tom Hanks) a la Mouseville :)

Hello everyone,

Great job Mischka, this looks like a good alternative to GW. It’s a lot of work but I’m glad to see someone did it. You already have 179 mutineers, mostly from GW. Arrgh, when you hit 200 we can sail back to GW and make Oprah walk the plank. Or, maybe just set her adrift…..althooough, Capt. Bligh made it out that way.

I posted as bruce_b at GW but have only been there a few times lately. Last week my dear SIL managed to let all the smoke out of my computer’s USB port and melted the camera cable at the same time. I’d planned to upgrade to USB 2.0 anyway so that wasn’t a big disaster. Fortunately nothing else on the MB seems to be affected. It just took some time to get it working again.

Anyway, hope this site flies. I haven’t posted to a forum like this before so there will be a slight learning curve. I know, change is good for old guys. Will have to test a picture, I see Grub has mastered it.

hey, Well I'm aboard as well !! Gotta thank a certain member for taking time and mailing me about this site or else I probably wud never have gotten here...

Hope to keep learning here as well ... My cherry tomatoe seeds have been put in and shud be ready for transplanting by end March !! Gonna have loads of cherries again this year to sell ... planting about 15000 plants ... and I feel I'm planting less as I allready have queries for my cherry tomatoes ...

Cheers

Andrey_BY February 7, 2006 10:57 AM

Welcome, khaadu!

Indian soup movies were very popular in Soviet Union and we still have a lot of fans of Indian Hollywood here in Belarus

By the way, do you know tomato variety named Kron-Prince? It is very huge vine with enormous quntity of small beefsteaks and they said it's from India...

Many Russian and Belarusian gardeners used to grow it every year

Hello!

Hi, everybody - I haven't had many problems with GW lately, but I'm glad to have YET ANOTHER outlet for my tomato madness.
