I am looking for partners in growing out several F2 populations next year. I have seed of the following:

Violet Jasper x Momotaro F1

NARX, NARXBolseno and SpudGiant (Spudakee x Novikov's Giant) were from Bill Jeffers.
Wagner T-4 was an Tom Wagner striped/waxy line I got from SSE
Parents in italic font were PL. F1 phenotypes were as expected with faint striping in most cases.

There are no restictions on use of the seed, other than I'd like to recieve back F3 seed of anything striped or otherwise interesting. I have enough seed to share ~15 seeds of each with 4-5 partners.
I am constantly amazed at your photos of striped and unusual tomatoes. If there is one of these hybrids that still needs a grower, I'd be happy to oblige.

Johno - there are at least 2-3 growers now for each, but I have plenty of seed still of almost all of these. Anything particularly strike your fancy?

The KBX x GZ have exploded out of the starting medium. These plants are very promising so far. my best looking seedlings as of now. Are these F1's or F2's?

F2 generation. This is good news - I haven't started seeding yet.

They should be segregating for PL/RL, with 25% of the seedlings PL.

heirloomdaddy December 22, 2010 08:38 PM

Yes, that is good news. I assumed they were f1's for some reason. Exciting...this may be a great cross!

Personally, I'm more interested in PL's, as they have definitely demonstrated superior resilience in my garden. Are you cool with me just growing out 4 or 5 PL's?

tell me about this cross as an F1. round, medium, non-striped? yellow? How was the flavor and habit?

Saving only PL segregants sounds good to me. The F1 plant had round red/orange fruit with very faint stripes (typical of a gs heterozygote), fruit size was a little bigger than Green Zebra. The F2 should segregate for stripes, fruit color and size.

Hey Mark-

All seeds sown and most are among the first to pop-up. God I love those fresh seeds, all jumping at the same time. A couple of the Stupice x Green Copia (or the other way around) are really robust and tough plants. Can't wait to see how they all do. Once it warms up a bit more and they're spending more time outdoors I'll try to send some photos.

Also, due to moving to a new garden, I will be growing many more than expected. Should have some great things to report to you by the end of the season.

Your killin me here, I won't get to drop my NARX x PFB and NARX x BBB till mid Feb, I can't wait. Looks like I'll have a 10ct row of each.

nangisha February 24, 2011 10:17 AM
All the seed was shipped today. There are 14 growers (LA to Poland), so the reports coming back in should be interesting. I still have seed left of almost all of these, so let me know if there is anyone else interested. Thanks to all!

Mark can I still joining your cross program I am interested in Stupice x Green Copia
and SunSugar F1 x Green Copia or any thing will be size of cherry tomato.

I don't have weather limitation because I life in tropic but all my tomato grew in container.

thanks

heirloomdaddy February 24, 2011 12:32 PM

My most mature Stupice x Green Copia and KBX x GZ are in the ground and thriving! not even march!!!

I should mention that the stupice x green copia has lived outside since it germinated in late december, was the only plant of about 50 to survive my buddy's accidental poisoning (labeled the peat pots with toxic marker), and was trampled to 1 tiny leaf by my dog right after transplant. If this plant tastes even DECENT, we've got a winner!

Will keep you updated :)
