Suze,

I'm assuming the F1 wasn't much more prolific than the F5.
Actually, the F5 was slightly more productive than the F1, but I wouldn't read too much into that. My first yr growing them both at the same time, and only two plants each.

And that is to the best of my general recollection, since I don't keep any record of fruits picked.
Anything at all that would distinguish them?
Not that I could tell.

I have four brandyboy's on my deck in containers, and one brandywine in my raised bed. I know its early, but my brandywine has outset the four brandyboys combined...unbelieveable. I will keep track of how many each produces this year.

Bump...

I'm wondering where this stands? Suze -- are you still growing this?

I'm also curious if anyone trying to dehybridize BB has gotten a strain that has the good flavor profile + is somewhat more uniform in shape?

I've grown the original F1 quite a few times with good results, but for me it always produces a lot of really odd-looking fruit (just like Brandywine). That has always been my pet peeve. I have no problem buying F1 seeds from Burpee, but with that I still get the odd shapes that I don't care for.

GG what a necro..

I remember reading posts by a green house gardener husband wife team from Wyoming.

I believe they had taken Brandy Boy out to F10 or even higher with no difference from F1.

I cain't remember their name...I wanted to grow Brandy Boy but I got Mat-Su Express and I'm done with Burpee forever now.

I did see a Brandywine Rutgers cross by Burpee. That might be the one for more uniform fruit.

Ok so I remember who the resident Brandy Boy expert was and his/her screen name is Hudson_WY. Find their posts. Find good knowledge and good pics.

Thanks for the links and info. Now that you mention it, I remember reading that thread from Hudson_WY quite some time ago. I've thought about Red Rose, also. And I've seen Mat-Su Express mentioned here before, but this time I looked up threads from AKMark. It does look interesting and appears more uniform than what I've gotten from BB.

It appears I was confused there was another poster in that giant thread started by Hudson_WY named HudsonValley who called Burpee and the person who answered the phone said it was a stabilized hybrid.

I do seem to remember a thread where someone had done growouts with pics too. I'll try and find it

Thankfully I have Mat-Su and it has been stabilized.

Some of the posters in that thread post here too.

Good read.
