Was down to Silver Dollar City at Branson, MO a couple of weeks ago with the family and stopped by the Baker Creek booth there inside the entrance. Picked up some literature, a couple of packets of seed, and when leaving at the end of the day, a cool pumpkin (Rouge Vif d' Etampes) that I'll soon collect the seed from. Nice stuff, can't wait to see the '07 catalog.

I too, love Baker's Creek Seeds. I have been delaing with them for several years. If you want a real treat, plan on going to the Spring Planting Festival. LOTS of great music, beside seeds & plant vendors. Missed the Fall Festival, one of these days I'll go. Was too busy hanging on to my 2006 garden failure.

Yes, I finally caught up with everyone! I suppose you know that Jere Gettle got married (lovely girl!), I am waiting for my catalog to see the Wedding pics. Stinker does not have them on his website. I met her this past Spring, not sure Jere is worthy of her : )
I've been reading your posts, darn those hips! And, rehab! Wish I lived closer, I'd take real good care of you!
My partner in tomato sauce crime is around, she's been super busy with work. I will nag her to sign up here. All of us (save two or 3), had a HORRIBLE summer! So much so, that we wonder why we even bothered. Our tasting was less than half of last year's. You name the disease, we had it!

In the past Jere had offered some varieties that were not pure and in sharing that with him I found him to be most receptive. He is no longer dealing with Seeds by Design, following the path that Linda at TGS also has taken.

He also was very understanding about my not wanting to contribute any articles to his Heirloom magazine when asked to do so.

Not all seed company owners have been as receptive about things as has Jere.

But there are others who also share his degree of honesty and understanding and spirit of cooperativeness and making things right, and Glenn at Sandhill, Linda at TGS, Mike at Victory Seeds and Marianne at mariseeds are some of them.

I feel that we should all "spread out" our business. I want to keep all of these companies, TGS, Baker Creek, SandHill, SSE, and Victory, in business. Even if it costs me extra in s/h charges I'm placing smaller orders with a variety of companies.

I think its the best way to keep all of these reputable companies from becoming vulnerable to the Monsantos of the world.

And I applaud your viewpioiint Lore, very much so, and agree wholeheartedly.

Seldom did I ever order tomato seeds, ahem, but thru the years I've ordered seeds of lots of other veggies and I always spread my orders around for the very reason that if we as growers don't, the income will not be there to sustain so many small excellent companies.

I also do the samething....I usually order from at least 3 different places, they all may be smaller orders, but I feel I am helping to keep them in business even with my small order or at least making it worth their effort to keep sending me a catalog.

Add me to the list of those ordering seeds from companies I have had good experiences with...and want to keep in business. In addition to the companies Carolyn mentioned...I also like Heirloomseeds.com and HeirloomAcres.com.

Do I need more tomato seeds...well really no I don't as I dont have a lot of garden space. I do talk a few others into planting a few of my varities. But I figure that I have them for trades and will store them for the future. I do need some new cukes and beans...
